NOLA

London

The concept of the new café is informed by both the ever changing, market-like atmosphere of the immediate surroundings of Peckham’s Rye Lane, as well as the intended use and layout of the space. The informal low seating close to the front with the taller elements of the bar and shelving further back reveals itself to passers-by, allowing the street in through the large, glazed shopfront.

The modular, flexible furniture is designed using geometries of the letters N - magic snake-like perimeter benches that can be re-configured as required, O - for the circular tables and stools, L and A - supports that appear as tenon joints on top surfaces. The chosen materiality embraces resilience and at the same time reminisces of coffee. Key to this is the timber framed cork boards that line the perimeter walling of the space and jump up in areas to become shelving and act as store as well as display.
